  • PowerWindows are produced by a small company in the Netherlands, called PHYSEE.

  • They are completely transparent, double-paned windows.

  • They include solar cells around the edges angled to catch the sun.

  • As of now they are only found on several large-scale buildings in the Netherlands.

  • No cost is specified, however it is stated that they are more affordable in the long run than wiring power from the grid.

  • They will help buildings to become energy neutral, as many new buildings in Europe are required to be by 2020.

  • It was highlighted by the World Economic Forum for its potential to change the world, helping to push green energy.

    • This will help everyone in the long run as sustainability and climate change affects everyone.​

  • They are currently installed in the headquarters of Rabobank, and the headquarters of the Amsterdam-based charity, the Postcode Lottery.​

    • Soon to be installed on the large, newly built residential complex in Amsterdam, the Bold tower.

  • ​A second generation of windows is currently in production. It utilizes thulium in the glass to transform natural light into near-infrared light and then direct it towards the energy cells. It will triple the efficiency.
